Solar power systems - clean electricity from the sun
Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity . There are two types
- Directly using photovoltaics (PV) : Photovoltaics convert light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.
- Indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP) : Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam.
Wind is a form of solar energy
Winds are caused by the
uneven heating of the atmosphere by the sun, the irregularities of the
earth's surface, and rotation of the earth.
Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy, such as using: wind turbines to make electricity, windmills for mechanical power, windpumps for water pumping or drainage, or sails to propel ships.
Wind is a form of solar energy. Wind flow patterns are
modified by the earth's terrain, bodies of water, and vegetative cover.
This wind flow, or motion energy, when "harvested" by modern wind turbines, can be used to generate electricity.
